Privacy Policy for NeutralEye Bias Checker

Overview

NeutralEye Bias Checker is a browser extension that helps users evaluate potential bias in online content. Protecting user privacy is a core design principle. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension accesses, how that information is used, and how it is protected.

NeutralEye operates only when you choose to use it. The extension does not collect, store, sell, or share personal data.

Information the Extension Accesses

NeutralEye accesses webpage content only after you click the Analyze button.

When activated, the extension:

• Reads the visible text from the active browser tab
• Sends that text, along with limited optional metadata such as the headline if available, to the secure NeutralEye server
• Displays the generated analysis to you inside the extension interface

NeutralEye does not:

• Collect personally identifiable information
• Access unrelated webpages
• Monitor your browsing history
• Track your activity across sites
• Access account data, cookies, login fields, or form input

All actions are initiated by the user and are limited strictly to the tab chosen for analysis.

How Data Is Used

The extracted text is used only to generate a bias analysis for the page you selected.

Your data is:

• Processed solely for this purpose
• Transmitted securely using HTTPS
• Not stored permanently

The extension does not keep a local copy of analyzed content after the result is displayed.

Server Processing and Temporary Cache

To improve performance, the NeutralEye backend may temporarily store a short cache entry. This may include:

• A hashed request identifier
• A small portion of submitted text or a key based on the page address

Important facts about this cache:

• It exists only in server memory
• It is never written to disk
• It is cleared automatically when servers restart
• It does not contain personal information
• It is used only to prevent duplicate processing for a short time window

NeutralEye does not maintain persistent logs or databases containing user content.

Third Party Services

NeutralEye uses the OpenAI API to perform text analysis.

When content is sent to OpenAI:

• Only the text selected for analysis is transmitted
• No personal identifiers or user tracking information are included
• All communication is encrypted using HTTPS

OpenAI processes the text for analysis output consistent with their published handling practices.

NeutralEye does not use:

• Analytics tools
• Advertising networks
• Tracking technologies
• Embedded external scripts

Permissions

NeutralEye uses only the minimal permissions required to function.

activeTab
Allows temporary access to the current tab after you click Analyze.

scripting
Allows NeutralEye to insert a small content script that reads article text. The script:

• Runs only when you initiate analysis
• Does not modify the page
• Does not access unrelated data or personal information

NeutralEye does not request broad site access permissions.

Local Storage and Tracking

NeutralEye does not:

• Store data in browser storage systems
• Use cookies
• Track users
• Create or store persistent identifiers

The extension keeps no long term usage records.

Children’s Privacy

NeutralEye is not intended for children under the age of 13. It does not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe information was provided unintentionally, contact us and it will be removed.

Changes to This Policy

If NeutralEye functionality or permissions change, this Privacy Policy may be updated. Any revision will include a new effective date at the top of the document.
